Everything We Know So Far About 13 Reasons Why Season 2
Excited to hear there's gonna be a second season of 13 Reasons Why? Here's everything we know so far, over at MTV.co.uk.
Calling all human beings who’ve been left emotionally broken after watching the final episode of 13 Reasons Why. GOOD NEWS, a second season for the internet’s fave TV show was confirmed last week.
Selena Gomez broke the news with a teaser trailer for the next chapter, adding that we can be sure that “their story isn’t over”.
AGH, but what does this mean? What can we expect from the show which came to a pretty final conclusion, but left so many unanswered questions?
Here’s everything we know so far about 13 Reasons Why Season 2.
Oh, and big fat spoiler alert, by the way. OBVIOUSLY.
Hannah Baker is a part of it
Spoiler alert (which you’ve probably heard a million times already), Hannah takes her own life at the end of season one. But interestingly, the big names in charge of the show have confirmed that she’ll absolutely be a part of the second series.
"Hannah's story is still very much not finished," showrunner Brian Yorkey told The Hollywood Reporter. "She's an integral part of whatever the next chapter of the story is, and she's very much still at the center of it."
Surely there can't be any more tapes involved, but we’re gonna guess that means either a prequel, a whole load of flashbacks, or maybe a shift in character perspective.
But who else is confirmed?
Well, no one - yet. Super sleuth skilled fans have come to the conclusion that all arrows are pointing to the Zach definitely coming back for season 2, though.
His IRL self, Ross Butler, has decided not to return to Riverdale – probably meaning he’s already booked up elsewhere even more important. OOOH. Aside from Zach, it's likely that most leading characters will make a return, as pretty much everyone still has a very open, unresolved storyline.
Possible storyline theories are all over the place.
As soon as news was confirmed that Netflix will be returning to Liberty High School, 13 Reasons fans were coming up with theories quicker than you can say ‘controversial Netflix original’.
Popular predictions for storylines right now include a deeper look at Alex’s suicide attempt, Tyler’s plans, Hannah’s parents’ lawsuit, and Bryce’s rape trial. Series creator Brian Yorkey has also dropped a few hints at questions that might finally be answered.
He told The Times: “Hannah’s story isn’t over — she has parents who still don’t have the complete story.”
“There’s a rapist who hasn't been brought to justice, and there’s a living survivor of that rapist who is just beginning her journey of recovery.
There could be some justice, finally.
Of all the heartbreaking parts of the story, the fact that the truly awful, awful Bryce has faced zero repercussions for his actions has got to be one of the worst and most upsetting.
“If we left these 13 episodes out in the world with [the rapist] not being brought to justice … it’d be incredibly dissatisfying to me,” series creator Brian Yorkey told The Times.
The finale made it pretty clear that Bryce could finally be brought to justice, though; Clay has a taped confession (ish) from Bryce, Jessica begins to tell her dad, and Hannah's parents will find out from the tapes.
A school shooting?
Wait, what? Theory numero uno that's floating around the internet right now is pretty dramatic, and all leads back to the discovery that Tyler mysteriously had a whole lot of guns hidden away in his room.
Later in the episode we see him fascinated by a selection of photographs of his classmates, which fans have suggested could be a kind of hit list. Top of that list? Clay, who spread his naked photo around the school in response to what he did to Hannah.
Viewers of 13 Reasons Why have argued that he's not exactly a character who they want to get to know - but could it just be example of another character who's completely alienated and needs to be fully understood?
Someone else's thirteen reasons.
If the show decides to stick to its now iconic format, it's likely that it could be Alex's thirteen reasons that we're confronted by this time.
Assuming Alex survives his shock suicide attempt from last season, it'd make sense that series two becomes his own list of thirteen reasons. There's a couple of theories that the past season dropped hints of a mirrored storyline for Alex - for example, BuzzFeed noted that Alex is shown cleaning his room shortly before his suicide attempt, just like Hannah.
Is Selena Gomez gonna be involved?
Technically, it hasn't been confirmed, but the fact that executive producer Selena shared the new trailer on her Instagram is a pretty big, fat hint that it's a definite possibility.
She recently told The Hollywood Reporter: "We don't know what is going to go beyond it, but we know there are so many stories that lie beneath each character. That's why it became a series in the first place. So we'll see."
Are we gonna be left emotionally broken again?
Let's be honest. Probably.
