13 Reasons Why's Alisha Boe Shares Message Of Support For Survivors Of Sexual Assault
She's teamed up with Joe Biden to help tackle sexual assault on university campuses.
Unfortunately, stories of sexual assault on university campuses across the US are not uncommon, and in a bid to tackle the issue, former Vice President Joe Biden has been speaking out to make it clear what does and does not constitute consent when it comes to having sex.
At an event aiming to educate students and staff about sexual assault at George Mason University this week, Joe was joined by actor Alisha Boe, whose character Jessica is assaulted at a party in Netflix show 13 Reasns Why.
“A woman who’s dead drunk cannot consent. You are raping her," Biden said, explaining why it is so important to understand that having someone clearly affected by alcohol is unacceptable.
“We got to talk about this. Consent requires affirmative consent. And if you’re too drunk to be able to consent, it is not consent.”
Offering support for those who have been assaulted, Alisha also spoke up and said: "We want the survivors in the room today to know that your voice matters, your story is important and your truth is real.
"You are never, ever, ever alone."
Writing on Instagram after the event, Alisha captioned a pic of herself with Joe: "UNCLE JOE!!! Beyond grateful that @itsonus gave me an opportunity to speak at todays rally. @vp44 gave such a moving speech and I will forever remember this experience. Thank you thank you thank you!!"
