Netflix’s '13 Reasons Why' Is The Show You’ve Been Looking For To Fall In Love With

Cancel all and any weekend plans right this minute.

Today is the day that Netflix release the highly anticipated 13 Reasons Why, and we’re now going to try our hardest to explain to you why you need to watch it immediately.

Why? Well because we’re obsessed with it and think you will be too!

What’s it all about?

Based on Jay Asher’s YA book of the same name, 13 Reasons Why is about teenager Hannah Baker who committed suicide and left a series of tapes explaining why she took her own life.

Each tape focuses on an individual and the part that they played in her death, each reacting in drastically different ways.

What other shows is it like?

It certainly has Pretty Little Liars, 90210 (just without the sunshine) and The OC vibes to it, but honestly it’s incredibly refreshing and nothing like we’ve seen before.

Is Selena Gomez in it?

You may have seen Selena’s name being thrown about in relation to the series, but alas she’s not actually in it. Nope, this time she’s behind the camera serving as Executive Producer on the show, as well as having recently recorded a song for the soundtrack.

It’s a project that she worked on with her mum, Mandy Teefey, and they’re both incredibly proud of the outcome.

Will I recognise anyone?

The cast is full of fresh faces, with it being both Katherine Langford and Dylan Minnette’s first proper lead roles.

Though there are a few you might know, there’s Ross Butler who is also currently in Riverdale, Keiko Agena who played Laine in Gilmore Girls, Brian D’Arcy James of Smash and Hamilton fame and Kate Walsh from Private Practice and Grey’s Anatomy.

How many episodes are there?

As the title may suggest, there’s 13 one-hour long episodes for you to binge on.

Are they all available now?

YES. Soz Riverdale, but the whole weekly thing is a drag.

Should I read the book first?

Not necessarily, it’s still a thoroughly enjoyable read knowing what happens.
