5 Seconds Of Summer On Fans, Dating And Crushing On Ariana Grande
5 Seconds Of Summer have come a long way in a short space of time. Following the release of their number one single She Looks So Perfect back in March, Ashton, Calum, Luke and Michael set the album charts on fire with their self-titled debut, and scored a support slot on One Direction's Where We Are world tour.
With their own headline arena tour announced for June 2015, you can get a taste of what to expect from a 5SOS gig by streaming Live From MTV: 5 Seconds Of Summer tonight - July 21st - at 7.30pm (BST) at http://5SecondsOfSummer.mtv.com. While you wait, check out what the boys had to say about fans, dating, dating fans and Ariana Grande in our exclusive interview below...
MTV UK: What kind of gifts do you get from your fans?
Luke: Most of my T-shirts come from fans.
Ashton: They've got good fashion sense! We always get a random few pizzas delivered to the house every now and then too.
Calum: They feed us, they clothe us; it's like having lots of people taking care of you.
MTV UK: What's the craziest thing your fans have ever done for you?
Ashton: We were playing at this house in LA and some fans found out where we were staying. They sent male strippers to the house.
Calum: We thought someone was trying to break into our house!
Michael: They rocked up to the front door and one of them was trying to peer in with a light.
Ashton: Then we looked closer and he was wearing really tiny pants…
Luke: He was very buff.
Michael: We also used to have a plastic dog named Ketchup in that house and as soon as we left the fans broke into the house and stole the dog.
She Looks So Perfect
MTV UK: Why was the dog called Ketchup?
Michael: It just felt right.
Ashton: First name that came to mind.
Michael: I miss that dog…
MTV UK: Have you ever had any negative fan experiences?
Calum: Only when people chasing us almost get hit by cars and stuff like that. It can get quite intense and we never want anyone to get hurt.
MTV UK: Would any of you date a fan or would that be weird?
Ashton: It wouldn't be weird at all. They're normal people.
Luke: Yeah, fans are just people who happen to like our music.
Ashton: It's a bonus if your girlfriend likes your music, definitely not a downfall.
MTV UK: Would you date a girl who didn't like your music?
Calum: That'd be hard…
Michael: Only if they had a proper reason.
Calum: Yeah they'd have to have a really good reason for not liking it!
Ashton: It would be a bit awkward to be with a girlfriend who didn't love what you do.
Michael: I don't think anyone wants to date us anyway. Girls don't really like us.
Ashton: If you're into death metal that's a good reason not to like our music.
Luke: Nah, like if they understand what we do, but if it's just not they're vibe… that might be okay. I'd be a bit upset, but I'd get over it.
MTV UK: Which celebrity ladies do you think look good at the moment?
Ashton: I'm a big fan of rocky girls. I love Hayley Williams and the lead singer from Tonight Alive. She's really cool.
Calum: I'm a big Oprah Winfrey fan.
Luke: Ellen DeGeneres. I think she's wonderful.
Michael: She's funny. I don't know. I just like so many people.
Ashton: Pixie Lott's hot.
Michael: Pixie Lott is hot. Ariana Grande. There are a lot of hot people. Everyone's perfect.
