Above & Beyond Officially Kick Off Snowbombing 2013
As MTV News arrives in style...behind a furry car...really...
As we left Luxembourg and said 'guten tag' to Germany, our Volvo XC60 battled through all four seasons of weather and hit the world famous autobahn where we "gave it some beans".
Clocking up the miles to a pounding playlist featuring Daft Punk, Foals, Wyclef Jean, Disclosure and Snowbombing headliners Kasabian, we passed Bayern Munich's Allianz Arena (a massive new football stadium which looks like it's wrapped in a duvet) and bloomin' breathtaking scenery.
After all road trippers had congregated just outside Mayrhofen, and with some mystery meat in our bellies (courtesy of the legendary 'Hans The Butcher') it was time for the mighty tooting precession into town.
We were second to cross the line, beaten only by a car dressed as a lion. Or a fox. Whatever, it had a wagging tail. The last 50m of the road trip were the most special as hundreds of people paused their après ski to sing and cheer us in. We felt like Lewis Hamilton and Nicole Scherzinger all rolled into one.
Later that evening at Mayrhofen's Racket Club venue Above & Beyond greeted the weary, but nonetheless up for it travellers who'd made the 800 mile trip ahead of the majority of festival goers arrival tomorrow.
The dance act who've taken it upon themselves to offer 'Group Therapy' through their euphoric build ups and hefty breakdowns, evident in their recent single Alchemy featuring the ethereal vocals of Zoe Johnston, set the standard for what's set to be a week filled with world-class dance music set in one of the most spectacular landscapes in Europe.
Later this week we'll be treated to an exclusive live performance from Kasabian atop a mountain at the Barclaycard Arctic Disco, Skream playing the Snow White's Disco Whorehouse at the Rekorderlig Back Country Party plus Example performing live…during his stag do and much, much more!
