Grown Ups 2 Dive-Bombs Into Cinemas!
REVIEW: Bromance, bullies, and ‘burp-snarts’ in Sandler’s first sequel….
RELEASED: August 9th 2013
CERT: 12A
RUNNING TIME: 101mins
CAST: Adam Sandler, Kevin James, David Spade, Chris Rock, Salma Hayek, Taylor Lautner, Maya Rudolph, Nick Swardson, Steve Buscemi
DIRECTOR: Dennis Dugan
PLOT: Having returned to their hometown for a funeral in the first movie, we find the four best friends and their families have all moved back for good this time. Grown Ups 2 follows a day in their lives, culminating in a massive 80’s themed party at Lenny’s (Sandler) house.
BEST SCENE: The 80’s party and a hilarious DIY store visit are good, but the standout scene sees our 4 protagonists start a turf war with the local frat group, led by ‘Andy’ (played by a surprisingly funny Taylor Lautner). The scene ends with a naked Eric (James) dive bombing on top of Marcus (Spade). Which brings us nicely on to….
BEST ONE-LINER: “I was inside you!” - Marcus
DATE MOVIE OR MATE MOVIE?: Date Movie. But in reality can appeal to everyone, with the jokes treading carefully as not to alienate a family audience.
SCENE STEALER: Shaquille O’Neal’s police officer and the ridiculously hot ballet teacher (April Rose) are both unlucky not to take the crown, but we have to give it to the adorable Ronnie Mackenzie (Kaleo Elam), Kurt’s (Rock) youngest son. His line “oooh that’s cold” could well become this year’s “I wanna get chocolate wasted”.
WTF MOMENT: This could be any scene involving another of Sandler’s uber-talented inner circle – Nick Swardson. His character is everything from an intoxicated school bus driver, to a sexually confused new romantic with poor bladder control.
RATING: 4/5. Sandler’s first ever sequel certainly won’t disappoint fans of the first movie.
