Adele Sets New Sales Record With 'Someone Like You'
It's the first single to sell over 1m copies in the UK this decade
Adele has set a new sales record as her track Someone Like You has become the first song to sell over a million copies in the UK this decade.
The Official Charts Company has confirmed that the track, which spent four weeks at number one in February before returning to the top of the chart for another week in March, is now the biggest selling UK single in the 2010s so far.
The last singles to reach this were Lady GaGa's Poker Face and I Gotta Feeling by the Black Eyed Peas, both released in 2009.
Adele's album sales are also well on the way to breaking records, with her latest 21 having spent 16 weeks at the top of the Official Albums Chart, and selling over 2.6 million copies to date.
The Chasing Pavements star's first album 19 has also doubled its sales this year, selling 800,000 copies.
Official Charts Company managing director Martin Talbot has said:
"With an almost certain Mercury Music Prize nomination and 21's first Christmas season to come, I suspect her record-breaking antics are not over yet."
