Afrojack On Martin Garrix: ‘The Kid Is A Genius’

The towering DJ/producer shares his thoughts on the next generation at MTV Crashes Derry-Londonderry…

Afrojack has praised fellow Dutch DJ Martin Garrix calling him a “genius” and saying he’s “proud” to be working with the Animals hitmaker.

Speaking to MTV News at MTV Crashes Derry-Londonderry on Friday, the Dynamite producer who recently scored a No.1 on Beatport with his Garrix collab Turn The Speakers Up, told us: “He’s doing the right thing. He’s basically carrying over the EDM success to the younger generation.

And they can’t go every weekend anymore but they can go some weekends, so the older generation of EDM guys have their fans like Steve Angello, Sebastian Ingrosso and David Guetta, and Martin Garrix is basically like the new young kid that is representing that genre to everyone that is still under 16, and maybe 17/18.”

Afrojack – real name Nick van de Wall – continued: “He’s 18 himself and he has a long career in front of him even though he’s being hyped up a lot. A lot of people are saying ‘I don’t know if he’s going to make it’, but I’ve been in the studio with him and the kid is a genius so I’m really proud of working with him and guiding him a little bit through the path of the music business.”

MTV Crashes Derry-Londonderry airs on MTV Music and MTV Live HD October 18/19.
