Akon faked much of his dodgy criminal past to win credibility, according ot reports.

The Akon claimed he led a car theft operation but its been revealed he was arrested for driving a stolen car before serving just five months. The site says prosecutors then dropped all charges against him.

The R&B star has repeatedly played up his gangster image at one point claiming he faced 75 years in jail.
