ALADDIN Live Action Remake Is Happening

The movie just got an A-list director.

Make waaaaaaay, for Prince Ali! Say heeeeeeeey, for Prince Ali!

That’s right street-rats, Disney are apparently planning to bring a new, live-action version of Aladdin to the big screen, and they’ve already got a director in mind to make it happen… everyone’s favourite diamond geezer, Lock, Stock And Two Smoking Barrels director Guy Ritchie.

Not the most obvious choice on the face of it, although it makes a little more sense when you learn that Dan Lin is going to be producing the new film. He worked with Ritchie on the two Sherlock Holmes movies, both of which turned out pretty well, so hopefully the duo can bring that same Midas touch to this new adventure in Agrabah.

The Aladdin remake will become the latest in a long line of Disney classics getting a live-action makeover, following the recent reboots of Cinderella, Maleficent and The Jungle Book. And with new versions of Beauty And The Beast, The Lion King and Mulan also in the pipeline, the trend doesn’t look like stopping any time soon.

The main challenge facing Ritchie will be finding someone willing to step into the massive shoes left by Robin Williams, who turned in arguably the most iconic performance in Disney movie history. Vinnie Jones can expect that call any day now…
