Han Solo To Be Played By Alden Ehrenreich In New Star Wars Spinoff Movie

Say hello to the new most charismatic dude in the galaxy.

Alden Ehrenreich: ring any bells? He will do soon, as he’s confirmed to play one of the most iconic characters in movie history! He’ll be taking on the title role in the as-yet-untitled young Han Solo Star Wars movie.

Speaking on stage at the closing panel of Star Wars Celebration in London today, the directors of the movie, Phil Lord and Christopher Miller - who also directed' The Lego Movie 'and '22 Jump Street '- confirmed the rumoured actor, before bringing him on stage to introduce him to the huge audience of fans.

They revealed that thy auditioned more than 3000 actors around the world for the hotly contested role, but that Ehrenreich was actually the very first person they auditioned.

Han Solo is, of course, one of the most iconic characters ever, played by Harrison Ford in the Star Wars movies and most recently in 'Star Wars Episode VII: The Force Awakens.'

“He's a maverick, he's a scoundrel, he's clever but he's not smart. He wants to present himself as a cool tough guy but in the end he always does the right thing - which is why you love him so much and one of the most iconic characters of all time,” said director Christopher Miller on what we can expect from the character.

We’ve got a while to wait until we see Ehrenreich do his thing on screen though – the movie’s now in pre-production and will start filming in February 2017, with the film due to hit cinemas in May 2018. Before then, we’ll get to see Star Wars standalone film 'Rogue One: A Star Wars Story' this December, and Star Wars Episode 8 the year after.
