Reports claim the 40 year old took his own life after the death of his mother last week.

Spice Girl Victoria Beckham said: “He was an icon of all time. He made all he touched beautiful and will be desperately missed. My heart is very much with his family and friends at this very sad time”

Model Kate Moss released a statement saying: “Kate is shocked and devastated at the tragic loss of her dear friend Lee McQueen - her thoughts are with his family at this sad time.”

On Twitter Estelle said McQueen was a “truly creative genius” while Cheryl Cole said he was one of the fashion world’s “most talented and inspirational figures.”

At a gig in London band Massive Attack dedicated their track Unfinished Sympathy to the London-born designer.

And Lady GaGa simply took to Twitter to post a photo of her and the late designer together.
