Alexandra Burke 'Inspired To Be Fierce' By RiRi & Beyoncé
EXCLUSIVE | The X Factor star tells us all about her new track, Elephant...
The 2008 X Factor winner, who has entered the Midweek Chart at No.2 with the track, confessed to MTV.co.uk that promo director's Amit & Naroop were keen for her to unleash her sexy side, much like RiRi and Queen B.
Speaking of the shoot, Burke explained: "Amit & Naroop wanted me to be fiercer than I've ever been before in a video and to have a bit more attitude.
"I actually watched Rihanna to channel that. I watched her video for Wait Your Turn, which was something that inspired me."
Alexandra continued: "Plus, you just know that anything by Beyoncé is inspiring full stop. I did try and channel Rihanna and Beyoncé’s videos [in order] to be fierce and you know, they’ve got that swag so it’s always good to watch them for inspiration.
"The song needed that as well because you’re telling a guy to get lost. It was a fun video and one that I’ve never really done before."
Explaining the meaning of the song further, the 23-year old said: "Elephant is a song that is very close to my heart. It's very different from any of the songs I have recorded on Overcome [her debut album] and it’s very dancey, very Ibiza.
"I really wanted to come back with an uptempo song that was something that I've been through and I think that anyone can relate to the meaning of the song.
"Just the simple fact that no one here in the UK really uses there term ‘there’s an elephant in the room’ often, it’s more American so I thought I would bring it to the UK and be the first to kind of make it something."
She added: "I absolutely love the track and think it’s an awesome song and one of my favourites off the new album."
