Alice In Wonderland Holds On To UK Top Spot

Tim Burton's film is number 1 for a third week...

Alice In Wonderland has held onto the top spot of the UK & Ireland box office for a third week.

Tim Burton's 3D version of the Lewis Carroll book, starring Johnny Depp took $4.8 million, easily holding off competition from its nearest rival The Bounty Hunter.

The romantic comedy, which stars rumoured lovers Gerard Butler and Jennifer Aniston, entered the chart at number 2.

Matin Scorcese's psychological thriller Shutter Island starring Leonardo Dicaprio fell to third place whilst Jim Carrey's conman comedy I Love You Phillip Morris was in forth.

Matt Damon and Paul Greengrass' Green Zone completed the top five UK films - good news for Damon who recently announced that he has quit his role as Jason Bourne.

Alien epic Avatar held onto a place in the top 10 after being released over 24 weeks ago.

James Cameron's award winning movie has now earned £90.6 million so far in the UK alone.
