Tim Burton’s new film of Alice In Wonderland has gone straight to number one in the US Box Office chart.

The movie - which stars Johnny Depp - made a cool $116 million over the first weekend of its release.

That means the Disney 3D flick has now set a record for ‘biggest winter premiere’, it also beats Avatar’s opening $77m takings.

Worldwide Alice has now taken around $210 million including $16.8 million in UK cinemas.

Disney boss Rich Ross said of the box office hit: “After Avatar people were saying that they're ready for the next 3-D world and the first weekend in March was all of a sudden the right place to be to meet that desire.”
