Alicia Vikander Will Star As Lara Croft In New Tomb Raider Movie
Everyone’s favourite hotpant-wearing adventurer is back! That’s right, there’s a new Tomb Raider movie on the horizon, and as of today there’s a new Lara Croft too, with Alicia Vikander set to pick up the mantle from Angelina Jolie.
We’d previously heard that Star Wars newcomer Daisy Ridley was the hot favourite to bag the part, but the Oscar-winning Vikander is on a roll right now, and it looks like the next step to megastardom is her very own franchise. Hopefully for her it turns out slightly better than the 2001 version, which despite Jolie owning that outfit that like a BOSS… ended up a bit of a flop.
The new film will follow a younger Lara Croft battling through very first adventure, which sounds similar to the plot of the 2013 videogame reboot, where Lara must fight to survive after being marooned on a remote island. Roar Uthaug will be filling the director’s chair, having impressed Warners with his work on disaster movie The Wave.
The film doesn’t have a confirmed release date just yet, but Vikander be warming up those action muscles in the new Jason Bourne movie which hits our screens later this year. Looks like she’s going to be spending a lot of time in the gym…
