Ripley Will Definitely (Probably) Return For Neil Blomkamp's Alien Sequel
Alien icon Sigourney Weaver says Blomkamp is her "dream director"...
Speculation about Neil Blomkamp's upcoming Alien sequel has been rife ever since the director unveiled his secret - and spectacular - concept art for the film in January.
And now he's been officially confirmed to helm the film, Blomkamp's first order of business is to get his Chappie star Sigourney Weaver to reprise her iconic Alien role - Ripley.
"I definitely want to bring Ripley back," he told MTV. "Alien and Aliens are my favourite movies, and this film is a direct descendant of those, so that's my goal."
While Weaver coyly refused to confirm whether she'll be involved, fans have reason to hope. She was extremely enthusiastic about Blomkamp's plans for the project - and even called him her "dream director".
"I've seen a lot of the material, and I know he's working on the script," she told us.
"If I could pick any director in the world to bring this series that people have worked so hard on and love so much to and end, it would be him. He would be my dream director.
"I'm hoping it will all work out, and I think it couldn't be in better hands."
And Weaver's Chappie co-star Hugh Jackman revealed he'd love to work with the pair again. Could he join the Alien franchise? It's definitely a possibility.
"Basically, whatever Neil's up for, I'm up for it," he said.
Chappie is in cinemas now. The as-yet untitled Alien project is due for release in 2017.
