American Idol Result: Five Become Four

SPOILER ALERT: Another act bites the dust as the competition hots up...

SPOILER ALERT: This story covers the results show for this week, which will be shown on UK TV this evening.

American Idol has said goodbye to another act, leaving just four to fight it out next week.

With [uuid=70370695-09e7-4863-b819-3c801de2b9b8]all the boys out of the picture[/uuid], one of the five remaining girls was bound to get the boot, and it was country singer Janelle Arthur - who sang Vince Gill's When I Call Your Name and Dolly Parton's Dumb Blonde on Wednesday night's show - who found herself up against Kree Harrison in the bottom two.

Having received the lowest number of public votes, Janelle sang for survival with a repeat performance of The Supremes' You Keep Me Hangin On, which had been well received earlier in the series.

Despite giving it her best shot, judge Randy Jackson broke the news that the panel would not be using their save and Janelle was sent home.

The results show played host to a number of former Idol stars, with season three winner Fantasia Barrino and season two runner-up Clay Aiken both taking to the stage.

Ex-judge Paula Abdul also made a surprise appearance, and appeared to give Candice Gloverher backing, telling the singer that she was a huge fan.
