American Idol: Second Contestant Axed
SPOILER ALERT: Top 10 narrowed down to just eight after results show...
American Idol, with the top 10 hopefuls now thinned-out to just eight.
Paul Jolley was given his marching orders after finishing bottom of the public vote - and failing to convince judges to "save" him with his rendition of Alone by Heart.
The 23-year-old from Palmersville, Tennesee, was joined by Devin Velez and Amber Holcomb in the bottom three.
And there was some surprise at Holcomb's low placing after she had been widely acclaimed as one of the best performers when the contestants tackled the songs of The Beatles the night before.
Meanwhile there was excitement for another of the show's hopefuls, Candice Glover, who told how she had been delighted to discover that hip-hop star Drake was following her on Twitter.
She told E! News: "He didn't tweet me or anything, but his following me is like, 'Hey, I see you!'"
And she explained that she had been with her cousin when she was told Drizzy had started following her on the social networking site.
"We did cartwheels, backflips, everything you can think of. We were jumping off the bed! It was a big celebration!"
She professed her admiration for the rapper, saying: "Not only is he cute and everything, but I love that he's an artist and he doesn't rap about what a typical rapper raps about.
"Like, he talks about love and loving a girl. Some guys are too hardcore to do that, but I love that he's not afraid to be personal."
The results show will be screened on 5* in the UK this evening.
The winner of the show's "wildcard" contest was revealed earlier this week.
