Amy Looked Beautiful In Coffin, Says Mum Janis
She was dressed in her favourite yellow frock and beehive wig…
Amy Winehouse’s mother Janis has spoken about losing her daughter in a new interview with the Sunday Mirror.
She said the Love Is A Losing Game singer looked “peaceful, at rest, beautiful” in her coffin, after two of Amy’s assistants had perfected her makeup and put her in her favourite yellow dressed and trademark beehive wig.
"It was an act of love. She went out looking like the superstar the whole world fell in love with,” Janis explained.
She revealed she was initially in denial that the Back To Black star had died, as she had seen her looking to well just the day before. “I was stunned,” she said of hearing the news. “Straight away there was a sense of denial... that it wasn’t real. That is why I had to go and see Amy.”
It was then that Janis came to terms with her loss. "When I looked at Amy's body, that it dawned on me she'd gone. She looked peaceful, at rest, beautiful. It was my moment of final acceptance. The time to say goodbye. It was Amy's curtain call.
“As a family we'd decided Amy's funeral should be a party - a celebration of her amazing life."
Janis added she was consoled by the outpouring of love from her daughter’s fans around the world. “I realised I was not grieving alone,” she said. “It was comforting.”
