Anchorman 2 Re-Released With More Than 700 New Jokes

Comedy sequel set for limited cinema run with 'remixed' version featuring 763 new gags...

An alternative, longer version of Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues is set to get a restricted cinema run.

Director Adam McKay told Empire magazine about the unusual move - which will apparently see a 20-minutes longer version of the hit movie return to the big screen for a week.

He explained: "When my editor told me we had a whole different version of the movie that was more than two hours long with nearly 800 new jokes, I was shocked.

"But when Paramount said they were actually going to put it in theatres, I did a 1950s spit take. If you're a hardcore Anchorman fan, go see this. If you're not, stay very far away.

"We did so much improv on this one that we can literally replace every single joke in the movie and put in alt scenes and alt improv runs. I think it would be really funny to put it in theatres for midnight showings.

"I know that I personally, if I loved a movie and someone told me that, like if Airplane! had been released with all-new jokes, I'd be like, 'You've got to be f**king kidding me!' I'd see it in a second."

The new edit is set to play in UK and US cinemas from Friday.

The movie was originally released in December last year.
