Angelina Jolie: "I Became A Director By Default"
MTV News Top Story: We hit the London 'Unbroken' premiere, where actor Jack O'Connell also reveals he found working with Ange "encouraging"...
Angelina Jolie has revealed that she never imagined that she would ever become a director.
Speaking at the London premiere of her new movie Unbroken, Brad Pitt's wifey told reporters on the red carpet: "No, I never knew I could direct or wanted to direct until a few years ago and I became a director by default.
"I'd written something and it was sensitive material about the war in Yugoslavia and I just didn't want to hand it over. I was nervous that somebody else, another director might be less sensitive about the material and so I volunteered myself but I didn't think I'd love it, I didn't think I'd be any good at it really."
She added: "I just really wanted to do my best and I would never ever have imagined that I would be in a position to do a film like this, of this scale, what I feel is such an important film."
Unbroken is based on the life of American Olympic runner and World War II hero, Louis Zamperini - with former Skins actor Jack O'Connell stepping up to play the part.
When asked by MTV News if it was daunting for him to work with Ange, Jack quipped: "I guess it could be daunting but it's encouraging. I got this sense of accomplishment to be on that set, to be doing a role that I truly believed in.
"It's very rare that you encounter that as an actor. You're coming up early in your career and she was there to validate that, bless her."
Aw, bless her indeed! Unbroken hits UK cinemas on Boxing Day.
