Angelina Jolie has opened up about her preventative double mastectomy.
Last year, the actress confirmed that she had the operation after finding out she was a carrier of the BRCA1 gene - which increases the risk of developing breast and ovarian cancer.
Speaking to Associated Press when promoting new movie Maleficent, Ange revealed that she feels "connected" to women who have gone through a similar ordeal.
Jolie explained: "Having lost my mum and meeting all these other women talked about making the choice to go in and get tested and then some of them finding out that they are, were in fact, already carrying cancer and that they would make the decision, but that they got tested in time and will be with their children, like my mom was unable to be with me, means the world to me, means the world to me - and to have this connection to other people.
"I connect on levels of art and things that are often very silly and to connect with people on something that's so important about something that makes us all very human and connects us all, and the real issues we have to deal with in life, and to be honest with them and to talk about them, and just makes me feel more connected to all people."
Brad Pitt's fiancée added: "I'm very grateful that I got the opportunity to make the choice I did, and very happy that other women know that they have that choice and for the ones that have made it, I send them my love and I'm with them and feel very connected to them."
Maleficent hits UK cinemas on May 28.
