Angelina Jolie Receives Humanitarian Oscar
Actress honoured for her campaigning work at Hollywood event...
She was handed the Jean Hersholt Humanitarian Award by Steve Martin, Angela Lansbury and Italian costume designer Pietro Tosi were all also honoured at the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences' annual Governors Awards in Los Angeles.
Along with her acting work, Ange has also devoted her time to campaigning for aid for refugees, help for women victims of sexual violence (particularly in Africa) and against the mistreatment of children in Syria.
She thanked her family and her late mother Marcheline Bertrand in her acceptance speech.
"My family, my love - your love and support make everything possible," she said to Brad. "Mad, you and your brothers and sisters are my happiness and there is no greater honor than being your mum."
And she was visibly holding back tears as she said that her mother "was very clear that nothing would mean anything if you didn't lead a life of use to others".
But she confessed: "I didn't know what that meant for a long time.
"To stand here today means I did as she asked. And if she were alive, she'd be very proud."
