Angelina Jolie Reveals: "I Pitched My Butt Off" To Get New Movie Made
The star went behind the camera for her latest film...
Angelina Jolie has spoken out about her new film, Unbroken, which sees her go behind the camera as a director for the third time.
"I wanted to direct something again but I wasn’t sure what and it had to be something I would love and I would care about, because it takes much more time away from your family and much more effort than acting," Angelina explained on the Today show.
Despite her status as one of Hollywood's hottest stars, she had to convince Universal to greenlight the story about Olympic runner and World War II veteran Louis Zamperini. "I had to pitch my butt off," she revealed.
The star also spoke out about the pressure of doing a biographical film, saying she felt: "Such a huge responsibility to get it right, because I love Louis so much and he's helped me so much in my life."
"I imagine that for the last 10-something years, he's been sitting there having a coffee in the morning and wondering who's going to make this movie."
"And I've been sitting in my room laying there thinking, 'What am I supposed to be doing with my life? I wanna do something important. I wanna connect. I need some help. I need some guidance. Where is it?' And it was right outside my window," she said.
Angelina said she made the film because she wanted to get across the important message she learned from Louis and his story: "I think for my children - and for everybody in the world - I want to be able to say it can seem dark and it can seem hopeless and it can seem very overwhelming but the resilience and the strength of the human spirit is an extraordinary thing."
