Hollywood Mourns 'Star Trek' Actor Anton Yelchin After Tragic Car Accident Death

The star was known as Chekov in the Star Trek movies.

Hollywood is mourning the tragic death of Star Trek star Anton Yelchin.

The rising star, who is loved for his role as Chekov in the Star Trek movies as well as this year's critically acclaimed Green Room, was just 27.

Yelchin was killed in a car accident at his home in Los Angeles, his publicist confirmed on Sunday.

His co-stars, friends and fans took to Twitter to mourn the actor and share their touching tributes.

"I loved Anton Yelchin so much. He was a true artist - curious, beautiful, courageous. He was a great pal and a great son. I'm in ruins." Tweeted John Cho, Yelchin's Star Trek co-star.

Fellow Star Trek star Zachary Quinto shared, "our dear friend. our comrade. our anton. one of the most open and intellectually curious people i have ever had the pleasure to know. so enormously talented and generous of heart. wise beyond his years. and gone before his time. all love and strength to his family at this impossible time of grief."

J.J. Abrams, director of the first two Star Trek films, wrote: "You were kind. You were funny as hell, and supremely talented. Anton, you weren't here nearly long enough. Missing you..."

An only child, Russian-born Yelchin moved to the US with his professional figure skater parents when he was a baby. His other beloved film roles include starring opposite Felecity Jones in Like Crazy and in teen comedy Charlie Bartlett.
