Apple Files Patent For Wrist-Mounted Screen
Flexible screen fuels rumours of 'iWatch' device being in the pipeline...
Applehas filed a patent application covering a flexible screen which can be worn on the wrist - fuelling speculation that it has an "iWatch" in the pipeline.
Technology and digital media site Mashable reports that the patent describes a "wearable accessory device" which "includes a flexible display coupled to a bi-stable spring".
And it gave some further hints of what Apple fans might expect by describing "a sensor for detecting a change between the flat state and the curled state of the bi-stable spring substrate" and a "kinetic energy gathering component".
And the patent also hints that the wrist-mounted screen could be a satellite accessory for another device - perhaps such as an iPhone or iPad.
It mentions "recharging a battery housed within the accessory device by way of a plurality of ambient light energy collectors disposed across a portion of one surface of the accessory device."
The application has been made to the US Patents and Trademarks Office, and the artist's impression here was produced by My Voucher Codes.
Apple boss Tim Cook has been having a pop at the OLED screens used by rivals such as Samsung.
