Travis Scott's 'Astroworld' Artwork Is Being Called Out For Removing A Trans Icon
And we all stan a queen that stands by her community.
Travis Scott has shared the album cover for his upcoming third studio album on Instagram, and the image, shot by David LaChapelle, has caused a stir online.
LaChapelle shared the original unedited image on his Instagram, and it included queer icon and trans woman, Amanda Lepore, whereas Travis’ did not.
Lepore wrote her own post on the ‘gram, while sharing the unedited version, saying: “It was great being part of @david_lachapelle s incredible photograph of @travisscott s albulm cover but I’m curious why I’m not on the picture @travisscott posted.”
And Aquaria was quick to answer Lepore’s question via Twitter, calling Travis Scott out for transphobia.
The current reigning queen of RuPaul’s Drag Race, and friend of Lepore, tweeted at Travis Scott saying: “The mysterious case of the disappearing Amanda.... hmmm @trvisXX.”
Aquaria then responded to her own tweet with: “Hi transphobia! I just saw transphobia gurl!”
And when fans began defending Travis and his choice to edit out Lepore, Aquaria had zero time for it.
The queen tweeted: “If people would stop constantly tagging me in their wrong opinions in regards to queer/trans/entertaining/etc. people that would be a lovely thing.”
Aquaria made a valid point afterwards to debunk the opinion that Travis simply took artisitic license in his ridding of Amanda Lepore from his album cover, stating in regards to it not being ‘immediate’ transphobia, that: "Maybe not even “immediate” transphobia but specific exclusion of trans bodies.”
She went on to say: “Shit’s still transphobic if u think people won’t buy your album because Amanda is on the cover looking flawless as ever.”
The original image with Lepore would have been legendary, and would of made perfect sense, considering she’s been a muse of LaChapelle's for years.
Quoting Aqauria herself: “Can’t wait to hear about the pic with Amanda being the TidAl 0nLY deLuXE eDit0N [sic]”.
