Arctic Monkeys wowed the crowds at the Reading Festival last night with a scintillating headline set.

And frontman Alex Turner has confirmed that the double-header of Reading and the Leeds Festival will mark the start of a hiatus for the band.

Speaking to the NME, he said the rock-focused events would be "the perfect place to leave things for a while".

"This festival has a special place in our hearts as it is the only one at which we've truly enjoyed the '360 experience'," he explained.

"As teenagers we attended a few times and fond memories were forged.

"We've seen a lot of festival crowds over the last 10 summers but this one is different, especially for us as it's the one we were once a part of.

"Like when we were youths it's a weekend we are once again very much looking forward to and seems like the perfect place to leave things for a while."

Imagine Dragons and Jake Bugg were among the other acts rocking Reading last night, while Leeds saw Paramore headlining with support from Vampire Weekend, Queens Of The Stone Age and more.
