A vote crowns Slim Shady as the best MC on the planet

Eminem is the Best Rapper Alive- according to a new poll of Vibe Magazine readers. In a complex tournament- which saw nearly 1 million votes cast- the Detroit native beat Jay Z to the top spot.

Marshall told the mag: "Its obviously an honour to have won the fans' support by being voted the Best Rapper Alive. I don't think that there is any one rapper that is simply the best though. But since VIBE's offering the distinction, hell yeah I'll accept!"

Also rated highly in the poll were Lil Wayne, Ludacris, Andre 3000 and The Game.

Eminem is set to release a new album later this year- its likely to include contributions from Dr Dre and 50 Cent.
