The Beats rapper plays London with tracks from his forthcoming debut album

The problem with live hip hop is that too often the vocals are buried in the mix and so the audience miss the lyrics.

This was true for Example at Proud Galleries- which is more a trendy media hangout than a music purists gig venue.

Fulham boy Elliot is smart enough to have a live band with him including drums, bass and hot producer Rusher. His imaginative beats even sample The Stranglers on the rather great Dont Do That.

Also banged out are the singles What We Made and I Dont Want To- which the audience gamely sing along to with No No Nos.

Examples biggest chance of a pop single is Carpenters sampling So Many Roads which he cheekily introduces as Radio 1s record of the week. Its smart, unifying and its gentle beats and rhymes wont scare off non-rap fans.

Weve been championing The Streets signing for a while now and cant wait for his album to hit our desks. On this occasion though we wished his witty word play was clearer.
