The mates are competing over a role as George turns down ER

George Clooney and Brad Pitt have reportedly got beef as they compete over a new film role.

Rumours say the good mates both want the role of Henry Higgins in a remake of the classic My Fair Lady.

Gorgeous George (pictured above with Renee Zellweger) apparently told OK! Magazine: We both badly want a particular role and neither is backing down It's sort of become an intense competition between us now and it just keeps escalating."

Somehow we think the competition between the friends is unlikely to develop into Biggie/ 2Pac mark 2!

Meanwhile Clooney is likely to turn down the chance to return to hospital drama ER for its final series.

The actor played dishy Dr. Ross until 1999 but his publicist said this week:

He is on record as saying he is not coming back It is something he has already done. He is busy making movies."
