Johnny Depp turned up on stage for an announcement earlier today at the Kodak Theatre in Los Angeles.

Disney chairman, Dick Cook, announced some of the studios forthcoming big budget blockbusters and it turns out that Johnny Depp is at the heart of the stories.

First up, Depp will don the infamous accent of Jack Sparrow once again for Pirates of the Caribbean 4, not that surprising, Depp attended the theatre in full costume.

Next, hes set to play another quirky character in the form the Mad Hatter in Tim Burtons Alice In Wonderland.

However, the most unexpected reveal from the event being that Mr. Depp has signed up for a big screen adaptation of The Lone Ranger that will be produced by Pirates producer Jerry Bruckheimer.

Alas, Johnny wont be rocking a white cowboy hat, hes set for the role of trusty sidekick Tonto. Depps grandmother was a full blooded Cherokee and Johnnys embraced his native American roots before in his self directed movie The Brave.

Question is, if Depp is the Lone Rangers wingman, then who the hell is going to play the lead?
