Ringo Starr and Paul McCartney have appeared in New York to launch new computer game The Beatles: Rock Band.

The surviving members of the Fab Four were joined by George Harrison’s widow Olivia and Yoko Ono at the E3 conference.

This is the first time The Beatles’s music has been licensed to a third party. In the game fans will be able to step into the band’s shoes and a ‘unique experimental journey’ through the band’s career.

At the launch legend Paul McCartney said “We love the game-, it’s fantastic.”

This version of Rock Band- which is owned by MTV parent company Viacom- will feature 45 classic songs from the Liverpudlians and is released on September 7.

The song All You Need Is Love will also be released through X Box Live with proceeds going to Medicines Sans Frontieres.
