Avengers: Age Of Ultron Is Kicking ALL Of The Ass At The Box Office
The superhero sequel has smashed UK box office records.
Shock of the day - when it comes to movies, people prefer superheroes to sex. At least that’s what we’ve taken away from the fact that ‘Avengers: Age Of Ultron’ has beaten ‘Fifty Shades’ to become THE best UK box office opening since ‘Skyfall’.
Oh yes, our favourite gang of superheroes have been smashing records left, right and centre after the sequel took £18m over the course of a single weekend. Insanity.
The pressure’s been on for ‘Avengers: Age Of Ultron’ to perform as well, if not better, than its predecessor, which took a whopping £15.8m during its opening weekend in 2012.
But all that worrying was clearly for nothing, because the film has absolutely DOMINATED since the minute it opened in cinemas, killing its previous record and pretty much every other film in its path.
Besides becoming the eighth biggest opening of 2015 (soz ‘Fifty Shades’), it’s also now the eighth biggest of all time, the biggest April opening ever, the biggest ever day for a superhero movie AND Disney’s best ever day, period.
Is anyone else imagining director Joss Whedon swimming in a pool of money right now, or just us?
‘Avengers’ has now overtaken both ‘Fifty Shades Of Grey’ and ‘Fast & Furious 7’, and is the best UK opening since Bond film ‘Skyfall’, which raked in over £20m in 2012.
There’s still time for the Avengers sequel to be overtaken later on in the year, though. With the new Bond movie ‘Spectre’ on its way, as well as the mega-anticipated ‘Star Wars’ reboot, they could both be hoping to outdo Iron Man et al by the end of 2015.
