Joss Whedon Admits Avengers Anxiety
Director opens up about his fears as he made smash-hit superhero movie...
Filmmaker Joss Whedon has spoken about his anxiety before and during the making of The Avengers.
The director said that he was unsure how his take on the Marvel universe would go down, in the wake of Sam Raimi and Christopher Nolan's superhero movies.
Speaking to The Guardian, he explained: "When Sam Raimi made Spider-Man, I was like - gah, I wanted to be the guy who got it right.
"When I saw The Dark Knight I was like, 'Oh, now it's postmodern... They're doing the superhero Godfather! So I guess it's over and I didn't get to make one...'"
And he also admitted that the production of the superhero ensemble piece was questioned.
"I had one bad week where some people lost confidence in me, but I told them to shut up and got on with my work."
Currently working on the script for Avengers 2, the Buffy creator said he wasn't surprised The Avengers had been overlooked at the Oscars.
"If you make a movie where you're just trying to delight people, and you want them to come out overjoyed, then… you're f**ked," he admitted.
