Newlyweds Avril Lavigne and Chad Kroeger have shared their "rules" for making their marriage work.

The couple, who [uuid=d1f2b1fd-c184-46bc-86e7-6968fa32d361]announced their surprise engagement[/uuid] in August of 2012 and [uuid=f857fa89-be19-4bc5-af92-b3618b6c6298]tied the knot in France[/uuid] last July, told People magazine about the guidelines they've put in place to keep each other happy.

Lavigne revealed: "We don't spend more than two weeks apart."

The 29-year-old continued: "Chad's been really supportive and coming out with me [on tour], which is awesome. I've never really had that before, and it makes it better.”

Nickelback frontman Kroeger dished that when they can't be together, alcohol and nightclubs are strictly off limits.

The How You Remind Me star said: "We don't drink when we're apart. Ever. Even if we're apart for weeks."
