Azealia Banks Released From Record Label For “Fresh Start”
The 212 singer is 'free' from her deal with Universal, ready for a fresh start as an independent artist...
Azealia Banks has confirmed to fans today that her record label Universal have let her out of her deal.
The rapper has previously asked to be dropped after repeated pushbacks of her album, which she eventually threatened to leak.
Promising fans a “fresh start”, the ‘212’ singer also tweeted: “Ugh, now I get to be the cool indie chick I imagined I would be when I was 14!!!”
A rep from Universal has yet to confirm her departure, and though unclear as to whether she’ll sign another deal, based on the singer’s Twitter feed it looks unlikely she’ll join another major label.

"I REALLY should have signed with Sony," she expressed earlier this year.
There is still no word as to when her debut album, Broke With Expensive Taste, will finally be released, having only given fans an EP and a mix tape over the past two-and-a-half years.
