Pete Dohertys group Babyshambles were four hours late for their V Festival Staffordshire set but (for once) had a legitimate excuse!

The Kilimanjaro group were held up in traffic on the way to the site after a car crash.

'The Mirror' newspaper even claims that Pete and the band pulled a man from the wreckage.

According to the tab: They saw the overturned car billowing with smoke in the middle of the carriageway. They stopped and pulled a guy in his 50s from the vehicle.

But our sources say the bands journey was less rock and roll. A label spokesman told MTV NEWS: The band was delayed by traffic and so couldnt make the allotted time.

However, they contacted the organisers on the way to the site and were able to reschedule for a later slot.

Wed love to believe that Doherty really is a saviour but this sounds a too far fetched even for the crazy Babyshambles frontman!
