Rock’n’roll stars Band of Skulls love a classic anthem – listen to their personal playlist
Southampton’s finest rock’n’roll trio, Band of Skulls, are about to drop their new album Himalyan and are currently tearing up the streets of the UK on tour. They put together their musical memories for MTV in this personal playlist – listen now, and find out why these songs mean so much to Band of Skulls. They love a classic anthem or two!
The song that made you want to start a band
‘Boredom’ by Buzzcocks.
Punk rock perfection. It sounded attainable to me and I wanted a piece of the action. Awesome two-note guitar solo, along with Howard Devoto’s asbo vocal.
The song that reminds you of the best night of your life
‘Live and Let Die’ by Wings
We played it though the PA before our homecoming show in Southampton a while back. A surreal but powerful memory.
The song that makes you think of London
‘Waterloo Sunset’ by the The Kinks
The view from Waterloo Bridge is one of the best in the world and evokes so much. This song nails it. All the romance, grime and hustle of a timeless city.
The song that has the best music video
‘Thriller’ by Michael Jackson
It was a real horror movie to me as a kid - but you could never look away. It helps that the song is a classic.
The song you wish you had written
‘You'll Never Walk Alone’
It should be a national anthem. It really does put hope back in my heart. I'd like to reassign classic pop songs as the new national anthems of the world.
The song that is always the last one at the end of the night.
‘At Last’ by Etta James
I just saw a great documentary about Muscle Shoals [the studio where this, and many other legendary songs, were recorded] and loved hearing how they put fantastic records like this together.
