Basement Jaxx: It’s not the end!
UK dance duo Basement Jaxx have just released a collection of their singles to date, but theyre keen not to call the album their Greatest Hits.
"Hopefully, our greatest hits are still to come", the Jaxxs Simon Ratcliffe told MTV News. "Its not the end, sometimes greatest hits records feel like looking back on a career thats finished."
His partner Felix Buxton agrees. "We were very keen that this wasnt seen as a nail in the coffin of Basement Jaxx. But we realised that weve had enough hit records and that, when we play all these big festivals, there are people who might know tracks like Wheres Your Head At and Romeo, but dont realise theyre by the same band. So this is the album for them."
The singles collection includes a couple of new tracks, U Dont Know Me starring The BellRays singer Lisa Kekaula, and current single Oh My Gosh which features the vocal talents of Vula Malinga. Vula was very excited about appearing in the songs video, but it turned out to be a lot less glamorous than she anticipated, as Felix explains.
"We got her to play an elderly lady in an old peoples home, and everyone else in the video is over 80! She was looking forward to looking all sassy and we said, actually, could you be an old lady in wrinkled tights? She was very unsure about it at first but she trusted our eccentricities and it all worked out well. In fact my dad, whos 76, saw it and thought it was quite erotic, and hes a vicar!"
