Joss Whedon Quits The Batgirl Movie
We'd been excited to see what Joss Whedon would do with a Batgirl solo movie, but it seems that now we'll never know, with the director confirming he's stepped down from the project.
"Batgirl is such an exciting project, and Warners/DC such collaborative and supportive partners, that it took me months to realise I really didn't have a story," said Whedon in an official statement. "I'm grateful to [DC President] Geoff [Johns] and [Warner Pictures President] Toby [Emmerich] and everyone who was so welcoming when I arrived, and so understanding when I… uh, is there a sexier word for 'failed'?"
Where that leaves the project remains to be seen. Recent rumours have suggested that Warner might introduce Batgirl as part of its female superhero team-up movie Birds Of Prey, rather than giving her a solo movie at this stage. With a standalone movie seemingly back at square one, that plan might now sound even more appealing to studio bosses. Watch this space...
