Man who slaughtered 12 in cinema claimed to be Batman's foe...
The gunman who killed 12 people and injured another 59 Batman movie The Dark Knight Rises in Aurora, near Denver, yesterday.
He is claimed by The Sun and other media outlets to have sat through the first 20 minutes of the movie before sneaking out via a fire exit, then driving back in his car - which was laden with weapons.
Holmes is reported to have been armed with an AR15 assault rifle, a Remington shotgun, and two Glock handguns.
He then set off two tear gas canisters before opening fire randomly into the packed midnight screening. One bullet even penetrated a wall and hit a moviegoer in an adjoining screen.
Local police chief Dan Oakes said that "many many" rounds were fired by Holmes, who was dressed all in black and had reportedly painted his hair red.
He said: "He was wearing a ballistic helmet, a tactical ballistic vest, ballistic leggings, a throat protector, a groin protector, a gas mask and black tactical gloves."
Ten of his victims died instantly, with another two passing away in hospital.
Police are reported to have found sophisticated booby-trap bombs at his apartment, which they are in the process of defusing.
