The Dark Knight Rises 'Takes 2D Box Office Record'
New Batman movie reported to have narrowly beaten the last one...
The latest instalment in Batmanmovie trilogy is reported to have broken records for a 2D film in its opening weekend.
The Dark Knight Rises is claimed by The Hollywood Reporter to have grossed £103m since it hit the big screen on Friday - although its long-awaited arrival was overshadowed by the killings at a screening in Colorado.
Only this year's 3D Avengers movie has outstripped TDKR on its opening weekend, taking £133m.
The official box office takings have not been released yet as a mark of respect for the victims of the shootings in Aurora, near Denver, but it is claimed to have narrowly outstripped the previous Batman film, The Dark Knight.
That movie took £101.6m in its opening weekend.
Premieres for the movie in France, Japan and Mexico have been cancelled in the wake of the Aurora massacre.
