MTV Meets: Bear Hands
By Tamara Roper
The Bear Hands boys have been making music for years now, but this summer you might have caught them playing a slew of festival dates in the UK, you lucky things. We caught up with Dylan Rau as he slept off a season of onstage antics…
MTV UK: Hello Bear Hands. Where are you right now and what are you doing?
Bear Hands’ Dylan Rau: I'm at my parents’ house in the woods, about two hours outside of New York City. I just got off a month of touring and I think I've slept about 75% of the two days I've been off.
MTV UK: Tell us the most unexpected lesson that you've learned since being in the music industry…
Dylan Rau: You only fail if you stop.
MTV UK: You've been in the UK recently. What are your favourite and least favourite things about our fair isle?
Dylan Rau: I love London, obviously. You've got a smart island. Better educated folks than America on a whole. The things I maybe don't love are some of your meat products and the weather (shocker).
MTV UK: You guys are from New York. Where's the best place to take someone on a date in the city?
Dylan Rau: Oh dear I'm not sure. I've had a good time eating bagels and reading in Central Park. Walk along the Hudson River, maybe? Go out drinking in Brooklyn late night…
MTV UK: Your track Giants is almost on a million views on YouTube. How will you celebrate when it gets to a mill?
Dylan Rau: Haha if only you got paid for that kinda thing. Ted and I will probably cheers our cell phones or something in the van.
MTV UK: If you could have written any song, ever, which would it be?
Dylan Rau: It's All Over Now Baby Blue by Bobby D.
MTV UK: What would be your death row meal?
Dylan Rau: Fruit Roll-Ups and Cheez-Its.
MTV UK: What are your band plans for the autumn?
Dylan Rau: A bunch of American touring and then trying to finish writing the next record.
MTV UK: How would you describe your music to an old person?
Dylan Rau: Hippie bulls**t.
