10 Skincare Mistakes You're Probs Making

You might think that you're a total whizz when it comes to your skincare routine, but even the most profesh of us can be making some huge mistakes.
From popping spots to dirty pillows, these no-nos are the most common flubs you might be making...

1. Not taking your makeup off
DUH. It seems like you think everyone would know this but sadly this is still happening. We all forgot once in a while after a wine of five, but not removing your foundation et al clogs your pores and can lead to spots. PLUS it actually stretches said pores and the older you get, the less likely they will snap back into place.
2. Using only makeup wipes
If you like to wear a face full of makeup then one little wipe is not going to do when it comes to cleansing. You may have noticed that you're still seeing makeup marks on your towel after using a wipe and that’s because it just skims the surface of the skin. They’re great for getting mascara off but whip out the cleanser to give your skin a proper clean.
3. Not washing your pillow case
We know, changing the sheets is a real faff but imagine all the grime and dirt from your hair and face that is being transferred onto your pillow at night - and you're sleeping on it again and again. If you really want to be a skincare angel then switch to silk, which decreases the creasing of your face and helps keep wrinkles at bay.
4. Not wearing daily sunscreen
We hear you, it’s cloudy and kind of a pain to keep applying but sun damage is going to make your skin look old, not to mention the health risks. You can get some great products that sit incredibly under makeup and you just have to put on once. Also slap it on your neck, ears and the tops of your hands.
5. Using dirty brushes
We have to admit, we’ve been mega guilty of this and regretted it. If you start to think about the dirt of your face being transferred onto the brushes you use day after day, you might feel a bit sick. Try to wash them every few weeks if not weekly.
6. Sleeping with your hair down
Dirty hair can really affect your skin and clog your pores. So pull your hair back into a bun before you head to the land of nod.
7. Popping spots
It might be the most satisfying thing you can ever partake in but squeezing those spots is a huge no. When you see those YouTube vids, the experts push down into the skin but us regular folks tend to squeeze from the sides, which can push dirt further down and cause a whole host of problems. Just try to resist it and your skin will thank you.
8. Drying out your skin
Be careful of choosing a products that is super harsh on the skin to dry out break-outs. Make sure it soothes your skin at the same time or you’ll just anger the beast.
9. Not moisturising oily skin
The temptation to try and dry out oily skin is overwhelming, but you HAVE to still put that moisturiser on. If you starve the skin of moisturiser it will actually make more oil to compensate. Sneaky.
10. Not getting enough sleep
Have you ever noticed that your skin gets oilier and looks worse when you’re tired? Turns out when our bodies don’t get enough rest we generate free radicals that cause it to look and feel gross. Sigh.
