13 Celebrity Tanning Hacks To Get You Ready For Summer
Ketchup? Say what?
Listen we all love a tan. You feel better in a bikini, can pretend you've just been in the Carribean instead of in your office as it's pissing it down with rain and curb your sweet tooth with the biscuit-smell radiating from your own pores. Well, maybe not that last one.
So who better than to tell us how to keep it a bronzed one hundred than those glowing celebs and the lucky people that tan them...
1. Use a brush like...Khloe Kardashian
Kardashian glam kween, Joyce Bonelli says: “It's easier and more natural to use an instant tanner to build up the colour. I use Cocoa Brown Instant Tan Bronzing Gel Matte as a foundation. If you do want to fake tan your face, always use a brush to apply; this will ensure it's evenly buffed in. Use a brush to apply instant tanner too, as you can wash it off straight away if it doesn't blend well.”
2. Tan whilst travelling like...Kylie Jenner
“I always get spray tans, and if you get spray tans you'll know that it kinda comes off on your face first. So I use Suvara Spray On Sun Bronzing Spray in Medium to Dark, "a little rejuvenation" product. You spray it, leave it over night and it makes your face tan again.”
3. Work it into your weekly routine like...Lauren Conrad
“Typically, I use body and face tanners once a week depending on my weekend plans. If I want to be extra tan for an event, I’ll apply a second layer the night before. Using towelettes and face pads have just become part of my weekly beauty routine now that my days of lounging poolside and tanning are long gone.”
4. Flash shimmery legs like...Gigi Hadid
“I use Charlotte Tilbury Supermodel Body. It's the best tanning glow for your skin. It's not too much coluor. It's just a little bit of coluor, a little bit of glow. It highlights in the right places and it's great.”
5. Veet those mistakes like...Jennifer Lopez
Scott Barnes, the man behind the J-Lo glow says: "If you do make a mistake, such as making your elbows or your knees too dark, don't panic. Use Veet or some such hair removal product, which removes tanning color like it removes hair, only faster. Apply it for 30 seconds or less then wipe away."
6. Tan is section like...Kim Kardashian
“I love to take tanning spray and spray my face and my neck, and I do it in sections. I'll do upper body one night. It's hard to do it all at once."
7. Use Ketchup like...Ariana Grande
Ariana’s tanner Jimmy Coco says: “Pump self tan remover onto a makeup wipe and rub over the darker area. This will remove the topical bronzer and soften the appearance of the darker areas. Or, you can rub some ketchup on the area to help remove the mishap.”
8. Shave the day before like...Millie Mackintosh
"I think it's really important to prep your skin properly for a tan. Make sure you've got rid of any old fake tan on your skin before you start again, otherwise it's just not going to go on evenly. If you want to shave your legs, make sure you do it the day before, otherwise the tan can seep into the open pores and you'll get those little dark dots.”
9. Use clingfilm like...Lindsay Lohan
Lindsay’s tanner James Read says: “If you struggle to do your back when you’re applying fake tan, get a long piece of cling film, lay it on the floor and apply some of your fake tan mousse or cream to the middle of it.
Stand in front of the cling film, take an end of each strip in each hand and apply it to your back using the same motion you use to dry your back with a towel.”
10. Prep for your life like...Chrissy Teigan
Fiona Locke, who sprays Chrissy, says: “Gently exfoliate, spending a little more time on the parts of your body that feel dry. Shave or wax 24 hours in advance. I recommend you apply a light layer of lotion to excessively dry areas like your feet, hands, elbows and knees. After tanning remove excess product from your nails, edges of your feel and palms with a damp cloth.”
11. Contour like... a Victoria’s secret angel
Jimmy Coco the VS show tan guru says: “I always define the center line of the abdominals and the spine of the back. I tan around the breast to give a lighter appearance at the top of the breast. This gives lift to the breasts and draws attention to the beautiful bra they'll be wearing. My butt contour is a heart-shaped contour which also gives the appearance of a butt-lift. This is done by shading from the tailbone around the hips and down to the bottom of the butt. The top part of the butt is tanned slightly lighter.”
12. Use a mist like...Michelle Keegan
"Always exfoliate and moisturise before you tan. Don't just moisturise the dry bits - you know your elbows and your knees - moisturise everywhere. And always spray the inside of your arms and your legs, so it doesn't leave white lines. With the Ambre Solaire No Streaks Bronzer Self Tan Body Mist (that's my favourite!) you can do your back easily because you don't need to rub it in. It sets evenly. If you keep moisturising your skin everyday it lasts well."
13. Take a cold shower like...Tanya Burr
Tanya’s tanning go-to Jules Heptonstall says: “If you’re tanning at home and shower just before your tan application, blast your skin with cold water before you get out of the shower – it might wake you up a little yes, but it will also shrink all of your pores and therefore reduce the chance of them getting blocked.”
