5 Tips And Tricks For Maintaining Natural Hair With Modiê Haircare Creator Janette Nzekwe
Advice for natural girls from Modiê Haircare boss Janette Nzekwe.
Whether you're already embracing your natural hair or are considering giving it a try, there are a whole load of tips and tricks that can help you on your way.
Someone who knows a few things about this is Janette Nzekwe and after going natural herself, she noticed just how few premium haircare brands there were offering good quality products for British women.
With this spurring her on to found Modiê Haircare, a specialist brand with a range of products created to nourish and care for afro hair, here are her top five tips and tricks for anyone wanting to maintain their locks while going natural.
1. Know your hair
"It’s important to really get to know your curl pattern, e.g. coily, curly, kinky. Other things that can help define your hair type include knowing how thick/thin your hair is it, as well as the porosity of your hair. This is important as it will determine how your hair responds to certain products, like butters or oils. If it helps put it into context, my hair is kinky, very thick and has low porosity meaning it responds well to water based oils and moisturisers."
2. H2O, H2O, H2O
"Water is a natural girl's best friend. I often put a little bit of water on my hair daily before applying Modiê’s moisturising créme. It’s a great way to keep tresses moisturised between wash days."
3. Stay cool
"It's important to limit the amount of direct heat you're using. I try not to use direct heat on my hair to prevent heat damage, so I wash my hair weekIy and then let it dry naturally instead."
4. Less is more
"To prevent breakage, you need to minimise hair manipulation. I use my fingers to detangle my hair daily and only use a comb to work through the conditioner when I do my weekly wash."
5. The internet is your friend
"YouTube product reviews are a constant help as it often helps to see what bloggers that have similar hair types to you are using on their hair and the sort of results they get with them."
