The 8 Golden Rules Of Eyebrow Maintenance With High Definition Brows Founder Nilam Holmes-Patel

The Queen of brows is here to get yours on fleek.

When it comes to eyebrows, there's no one better to share a few simple hacks for keeping yours on fleek than Nilam Holmes-Patel, the founder of High Definition Brows.

As theA-list's go tobrow queen, Nilam knows the power of a strong brow and no matter whether youneed helppicking the right shape and products for you, want some advice for regrowing overplucked brows or are totally new to the concept of maintenance and don't know where to start, here's her 8 golden rules for styling and shaping your eyebrows.

1. The key to good brow maintenance is love and attention

"It’s about creating fuller, natural brows that enhance someone’s features and facial structure. The good thing about great brows is they’ll also highlight facial contours, too.

"Basically, you need to start seeing your eyebrows differently and give your eyebrows the same care and attention you’d show to your hair.Just like your hairstyle, the shape and style of your eyebrows needs to be maintained. A good pair of brows can also change your entire face if done well; moving or changing the brows’ shape can make the face appear longer, shorter, wider or more narrow."

2. Generally speaking, adding in is way more effective than removing

"Rather than plucking out hairs from sparse areas, just fill in any gaps with a good pencil or palette."

3. Don’t get too carried away with your shaping

"Women around the world generally make the common mistake of over-plucking, over-arching or using a shade of pencil or tint that just doesn’t complement their hair colour or complexion."

4. If you’re a brow newbie, it’s always worth getting your first shaping done professionally

"I would encourage everyone to go and have the High Definition Brows treatment, as our professionally-trained Stylists will give you a thorough consultation before they do anything else.

"They’ll then create your perfect brow shape and give you tips on how to apply everyday brow make up at home too."

5. Don’t be afraid to mix and match your products to suit your brow needs

"Eyebrows are so individual and you really need to go with a shape that suits your unique features, as well as a colour that is similar to your natural tones.

"Powders are easy to use and are so versatile you can build up the colour pretty easily by adding more bit by bit. You can do this without looking shiny or like you’ve painted your brows on – and you can always use brow powders as eye shadows too.

"Brow pencils are good to give a crisper line, as well as being brilliant when it comes to defining and faking the appearance of hair strokes – just fill in the gaps. I like to use a firm, sharp and non-waxy pencil to draw feathery strokes into any sparse areas, as well as sharpen any edges of the brow.

"Finally, coloured brow gels wrap each hair with colour and make brows look fuller and more groomed. I love the High Definition Brow Beater and Colourfix and will recommend them to anyone looking to tint and tame their brows at home in-between treatments."

6. Doing less is more when it comes to keeping things even

"When it comes to making sure your brows are symmetrical, there really isn’t anyone better than one of our High Definition Brows Stylists. They use a combination of waxing, threading, tinting and plucking to create a brow that’s bespoke to you. They can also put you on a regrowth programme using serums to give sparse brows the boost they need.

"If you’re going to do your own brows at home, try not to over-pluck. Make sure you also keep your brows as close to your natural shape (as they were when you were 12!) as possible. If you’re struggling, you could try to fill in any gaps with a brow pencil and draw the shape of the brow first before tweezing the hairs around that shape."

7. Keep your appointments regular so you’re not tempted to DIY it at home

"I would recommend a month at most between professional appointments, so you are not tempted to pluck them yourself at home."

8. If you’ve overplucked and dream of Cara Delevingne style brows, there’s hope yet

"A regrowth plan using a growth serum is great for those with sparse brow areas that need growing in. If someone has naturally sparse brows, they can always fake the appearance of hair strokes by filling them in with a good brow pencil until certain areas grow in.

"Book yourself in to see a High Definition Stylist. Before our stylists even begin the treatment they’ll provide a thorough consultation so you know how they’re planning to create the shape. This always puts clients at ease, which is especially important for anyone having High Definition Brows for the first time."
