Girls And Guys From MTV React To Getting Lip Fillers Like Kylie Jenner
The MTV team got their lips did but not everyone loved it.
Lip fillers are still a pretty controversial one, aren't they? They might not technically count as having cosmetic surgery, but when you drop a mention of fillers into conversation, they still seem to divide opinion quicker than a butt naked Kim Kardashian selfie.
With celebs like Kylie Jenner and Charlotte Crosby revealing they've had them done to enhance their natural lips, getting fillers has never seemed more accessible, but has that actually affected how most of us feel about getting them done?
Here at MTV we're pretty divided on whether fillers are something we'd ever actually try, and while it was hard to persuade half the team that getting needles of Juverderm stuck into their mouths was something they should do in the name of journalism, we did get some mini lip makeovers with the help of Photoshop to see just what we'd look like if we did get it done.
Check out the team's reactions to their brand new looks below.
Before her makeover: "My opinion on lip fillers is basically the same as my opinion on veganism - I'm cool with it unless it becomes the only thing you talk about. That's literally the only reason why I'm not keen on Kylie Jenner's.
"People are WAY too obsessed with them, and so it puts me off the whole thing - but while I probably wouldn't put myself through that kind of procedure because I'm scared of needles and pain (and that weird thing where you have to keep massaging your lips afterwards to separate lumps URGH), I can definitely still admire other peoples' fillers from afar."
After her makeover: "These lips make me feel like I deserve a reality show and a some sort of C-list celebrity boyfriend. I would absolutely love to have these bad boys for a week just to see what sort of a reaction I'd get, but unless they help me project my voice more when I'm belting out Hamilton lyrics, I think I'm happy to stay as my regular (basic) self."
Before his makeover: "As someone who spent a year being called Pringle mouth at school (y’know when you take two, turn one upside down to make crisp lips), a yearning for a fuller pout hasn’t ever really been on the cards for me. Eventually, as time went by, I grew into my perfectly balanced, non-flavoured lips and have never looked back."
After his makeover: "While I’m still pretty sure I’d never get my lips done, mother of god I look damn good."
Before his makeover: "Lip fillers are the worst thing in the world. It's the most noticeable part of your face other than the eyes so WHY would you inflate them to look like you've been a victim of an extremely vicious bee attack?
"Me? I wouldn't in a million years get lip fillers. Nothankyouverymuchkbye."
After his makeover: "...See what I mean!"
Before her makeover: "If you want lip fillers, then I really don't have a problem with it. If it's going to make someone happier in their own skin then sure, why not! Well, as long as it's safe and your lips aren't going to explode, obvs.
"Personally, I'd never get them done, although that's because I don't have that big an issue with my smaller than average pout. But if it was ruining my life then yeah, I'd consider it."
After her makeover: "Yep, definitely still sticking with NEVER GETTING IT DONE EVER. The more I look at them the more my brain hurts."
Before his makeover: "Someone once told me I had thin lips and that annoyed me! I thought they were pretty good until that moment but now it's always going to be in the back of my mind.
"I don't know much about lip fillers so I just searched it on YouTube to see the treatment process. It's going to be one big NOPE from me. I'd rather live with my apparently paper thin peckers than have a stranger stick needle directly in my face."
After his makeover: "Seeing myself with deliciously plump lips makes me wonder if I could go through with the pain. Would people treat me differently? Would it make me more confident or even a better person?
"I don't know, but one thing I do know, is my mum would never let me live it down. Think I'll stick with what I've got, thanks."
Before her makeover: "I’m ALL FOR going non-natural. Who wants to look like everyone else when you can make yourself look however you want?
"I don’t personally get the big lips look of the moment, so lip fillers wouldn’t be my own choice. But hey, people get tattoos that look dumber and tattoos are more permanent. Besides, Kylie’s pout is an amazing business decision. Look at the sales-smashing phenomenon of her lip kits. I’m sitting here with tiny lips and no lipgloss line, so what do I know?"
After her makeover: "So lip fillers make me look like a cartoon. It actually doesn’t look as bad as I thought it would on me, but I think my mum would burst into tears if I got this done. Do people who get this find that food falls out of their mouth because I feel like it would.
"I probably still wouldn’t get lip fillers after seeing this, because now I’m worried about the food thing (a new concern). I’ve looked at this for too long and now I don’t know what my real face looks like anymore."
Before his makeover: "What anyone does to their body should first and foremost be down to them. But the frustrating realisation is that a lot of people only have cosmetic procedures because they've been made to feel insecure about their body as it is. And, not to get too philosophically waffly about it, but if we all felt more confident, happy and encouraged to feel beautiful in ourselves, then we'd arguably not have a need for lip fillers et al in the first place.
"THAT said, they're only temporary, so I totally get why people give it a shot (of hyaluronic acid). I would probably choose not to."
After his makeover: "I look like I've sucked a hoover. IT'S A NO FROM ME."
Yes, we know real lip fillers would probably look slightly better than our shoddy Photoshop attempts, but what do you reckon - would you get lip fillers if money was no object? Have a vote and let us know below.
